System configuration wizards guide the user through the process of adding cameras, configuring
video, scheduling recordings, adjusting motion detection settings, and configuring users. This
makes the system easy to install and deploy.
Automated device discovery
Enables fast discovery of camera devices using methods such as Universal Plug and Play,
Broadcast, and IP Range scanning. Automated device and IP-address handling reduces both time
and cost of the installation.
Smart bulk configuration option
Simultaneous change of settings across multiple devices with a few clicks.
Adaptable application behavior
Guides novice users, while expert users can optimize the application for efficient use. This ensures optimal user experience for different skill-levels.
Export/import of system and user configuration data
System backup for reliable system operation and fast system recovery. System cloning for

Import of off-line configuration data
Enabling off-line editing of configuration data, including camera and device definitions. This

Automatic system restore points
A restore point is created each time a configuration change is confirmed.
All the restore points in the current and previous five sessions are stored and can be reapplied.
This enables easy rollback to previously defined system configuration points and enables
cancelation of undesired configuration changes and restoration of earlier valid configurations.

Full logging of all user actions, including camera controls and what cameras the user is watching.

XProtect Essential ships with XProtect Smart Client 5.0b, that offers the following capabilities:
Sequence Explorer
The innovative Sequence Explorer provides intuitive navigation of recorded video and time
sequences from one or multiple cameras, enabling accurate and fast investigation of incidents and
evidence extraction. The Sequence Explorer is smooth to navigate with a sliding preview and
“drag-and-throw” function for video thumbnails.
Overlay buttons
Overlay buttons enable intuitive control of cameras, camera-integrated devices and other
integrated systems directly from the camera view. Appearing as overlay buttons when mousing
over a particular camera, the buttons provide an intuitive and logical working environment that
improves response time
Independent playback
The new instant and independent playback function allows you to independently playback
recorded video for one or more cameras, while in live viewing or playback mode. When used in
live mode, this will increase the operator’s ability to investigate incidents while still monitoring live
video.
Application options
To fit the specific needs of operators, or specific surveillance requirements, the new Smart Client
5.0 allows users to adapt the layout and personalize the application to their particular preferences.
The work not only becomes easier, but the cost of training new operators can also be reduced.
Updated Smart Client graphics
New icon-based control of panes in the side bar, combined with new scroll function make
navigation far easier. Slimmer application title bar design leaves more space for video.
Full screen mode
Full screen mode displays camera views only and hides all unnecessary information
Optimized view layouts
New standard view layouts have been added. The updated view layouts are grouped into 4:3 and
16:9 views for better support of different screen formats.
